Sediment
The data layer for observability.
A B2B SaaS platform serving enterprise data teams with real-time observability for data pipelines. The brand needs to escape the every-modern-startup-has-a-geometric-symbol-only-mark pattern while still feeling current.
The brief
Sediment is a developer-facing infrastructure tool, the kind of product that gets evaluated on its docs and its demo before anyone reads the marketing copy. The audience is the platform engineer or data architect who has seen ten observability tools this year and can tell which ones were named first and designed second. The mark has to work as a product favicon at 16px, on the documentation header at desk-reading scale, on a SaaS app loading screen, as the GitHub organization avatar, and on a conference booth banner at trade-show distance. Cliches to avoid: the geometric symbol-only mark with a wordmark that disappears at any size, the gradient-on-gradient that reads as 2019 startup, the abstract layer-cake icon that every observability tool defaults to.

Primary mark
Wordmark in Neo-grotesque sans
Wordmark-only is the deliberate counter-move against the geometric-symbol-only category default. The brand name itself does the work, with custom optical adjustment on the e to suggest stratified layers without becoming a gimmick. Reference: Linear, Vercel, Mercury. The neo-grotesque register reads as engineered rather than illustrated; the near-black primary color is intentionally not pure black so the documentation header has a paper-white feel at the top of the page.

Variant exploration
3 variants across the architectures.
Each variant takes a different position on architecture or register so the brand owner can see the choice clearly. The variants below would constitute the presentation set for review.
Application contexts
The mark in five application contexts.
A mark that does not survive its application contexts is not a contender. The renders below show the primary variant against each of the five surfaces this brand has to ship on.
Product favicon · 32px
App tab and product chrome. The wordmark reduces to a bookmark glyph here.
Documentation header
Docs site H1 register. The wordmark reads as part of the documentation system.
SaaS app loading screen
Brand reverse on dark with a subtle progress indicator.
GitHub org avatar
Square crop, the mark reduces to the lockup symbol.
Conference booth banner
Trade-show distance. The mark scales up without losing weight.
The deliverable
One variant, the nine-field spec.
This is the format the logo-design skill produces for every variant in a presentation set. The brand owner reads the spec, the mockup notes, the signals and rejects, and decides on the architecture before the production refinement begins.
