We sell renters, homeowners, and pet insurance. We do not sell auto, life, umbrella, or anything we are not as good at as the specialists. We will tell you who is when you ask.

The renters policy is the one most people buy first, usually because a landlord asks for it. Below is what it covers and what it doesn't, written the way we'd write it to a friend.

A claim, in the customer's words

The pipe burst at 2 a.m. on a Tuesday.

I was renting an apartment in Oakland and the unit upstairs had a pipe go through the night. My ceiling came down at 2 a.m. on a Tuesday and I lost a desktop computer, two monitors, a wedding album that was sitting on the bookshelf, and most of my wardrobe. I filed a claim from my phone in the hallway, on speakerphone with the building manager.

I had a Cover adjuster on the phone in fifteen minutes. They put me up at a hotel for nine nights while the unit dried. They paid the personal property claim in three business days. The wedding album they could not replace, but they covered the cost of a digital archive specialist who restored what was salvageable. I never expected the last part. I had not asked.
